Blue Hippo is committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information that we collect from our customers and prospective customers.
We are bound by the terms of the Privacy Act 1988 Cth (as amended) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This statement outlines what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use, store and disclose the information, how you can gain access to your information and the complaints process that you can pursue if you are not satisfied with the outcome. Our privacy policy applied to all your dealings with us, whether you are dealing with us is in person, by telephone, mail, email or online through our website.
This Policy may need to be updated from time to time.
Personal Information We Collect, and How We Collect It
We collect your personal information from contacting us, joining our Small Business Loyalty Program and various sources including, but not limited to, conversations we have with you either in person or via phone or email, details requested in our contracts or other written documentation, details from your browsing activity.
Providing this personal information is optional so, as an individual, you may choose not to identify yourself or use a pseudonym instead. We will be able to provide you with some information about our products under these circumstances but will be unable to assist you further in respect of any application for credit or hire agreement as we need to protect our products and ourselves.
The types of personal information we may collect about you depend on how you deal with us, and may include:
- Your name, street address, (and in some circumstances proof of address), date of birth, email address, telephone, mobile and facsimile numbers, your company or business name and ABN/ACN to identify you (if applicable), and for us to contact you.
- Loyalty program information (including loyalty card number/identifier, transaction activity associated with the card, and points/ discount eligibility information);
- Your payment details (for example, credit/debit card details where provided, and payment references);
- Where you apply for a credit card facility as part of the Small Business Loyalty Program: bank account details, trade references and credit-related information;
- Communications you send to us (including enquiries, feedback and complaints); and
- Website usage information.
Credit-related information (Small Business Loyalty Program)
Our Small Business Loyalty Program may involve us providing you with credit on your loyalty card and issuing you an activity report and invoice for usage in a given month, early in the following month, with a pre-arranged discount applied.
If you apply for or use a credit facility as part of the Small Business Loyalty Program, we may collect and use credit-related information to assess eligibility, set credit limits, administer the account, invoice you, and manage arrears.
This may include obtaining and/or exchanging information with credit reporting bodies and trade references you provide.
Sensitive Information
We do not endeavour to collect sensitive information (such as information about your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion, sexual orientation, health information or criminal record) unless it is reasonably necessary and we have your consent or we are otherwise authorised or required by law.
Providing personal information is generally optional. However, if you choose not to provide certain personal information, we may not be able to respond to your enquiry, administer your loyalty program membership, provide you with an account, or assess and provide a credit facility as part of the Small Business Loyalty Program.
Website usage, cookies and analytics
If you visit our website, we may collect information about your browsing activity using cookies and similar technologies. Cookies help provide general statistical information about usage of our website and may assist us to improve the website and services.

- to operate our laundromats;
- to administer the Small Business Loyalty Program (including issuing loyalty cards, allocating benefits/discounts, recording card activity, and providing activity reports and invoices);

- to respond to enquiries and communications;
- for internal administrative purposes;
- to improve our services and customer experience;
- to protect you and us from fraud, misuse, and security risks;
- to collect and recover amounts owing (including debt collection activities); and
- to comply with our legal obligations.
We may use your personal information to provide you with information about our products and services. If you do not wish to receive marketing communications from us, you may opt out by contacting us.
Disclosure of Personal Information
Your personal information may be shared with:
- our employees and contractors who need it to perform their duties;
- service providers who assist us to operate our business (for example, IT support, website hosting, analytics providers, loyalty program administration providers, and payment processors);
- professional advisers (such as legal, accounting and insurance advisers);
- credit reporting bodies, trade references and other credit providers (where you apply for or use a credit facility as part of the Small Business Loyalty Program, or where permitted by law);
- debt collection agencies and other parties involved in recovering amounts owing; and
- government agencies, regulators, courts, tribunals, or law enforcement where required or authorised by law.
We will not use or disclose your personal information for a secondary purpose unless:
- you have consented;
- you would reasonably expect it; or
- it is otherwise required or permitted by law.
We do not generally disclose personal information to overseas recipients without your consent. If we use third-party providers that store or process data overseas, we will take reasonable steps to ensure the overseas recipient handles personal information in accordance with the APPs or as otherwise required or permitted by law.
Protecting Your Personal Information
We will take reasonable steps to ensure your personal information is held securely and protected from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
We store information in electronic and/or hard copy form and restrict access to those personnel who need access for business purposes.
No data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed as totally secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of information transmitted online.
Obtaining Access to Your Personal Information

Once we have confirmed your identity, we will arrange to provide that access within a reasonable period. There may be a minimal charge for addressing that request. If we refuse to give access because of a reasonable belief that giving access would breach the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), we will give you written reasons for the refusal.
Correcting Your Personal Information
If you believe that the information we hold about you is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date, please let us know, and we will take reasonable steps to correct it. If we do not agree that there are grounds for amendments, then we will follow the procedures set out in the APPs.
Complaints
If you wish to make a complaint about the way we handle your personal information you may lodge your complaint in writing to Level 5 356 Collins Street Melbourne Vic 3000, or an email to customerservice@bluehippolaundry.com.au. Your complaint will be investigated and any action or refusal shall be open for discussion with you. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, a complaint can be lodged with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
